Blackbutt Decking Perth WA

Note : Blackbutt currently unavailable due to limited log availability in NSW. Consider Spotted Gum as an reasonable alternative.

A common but popular choice of flooring, cladding, fencing and decking, the blackbutt tree grows in abundance along the east coast of Australia.

Known for its resistance to fire, blackbutt timber is a dense hardwood that looks beautiful inside or outside the home. It makes a sturdy deck and is a great natural flooring option for inside too.

Blackbutt provides a unique look to other timber decking options; it is lighter in colour and tends to darken with exposure to UV and following decking oil application. Blackbutt is a great decking choice as it often has a straight grain, making it unique to other Australian timber.

Care & Maintenance

Maintenance is crucial for all types of timber decking in order to keep it in pristine condition.

Different timber species require different amounts of maintenance. Blackbutt, although a durable hardwood, is greatly affected by the elements. Normal recommendations suggest cleaning, scrubbing and sealing your deck every 6 – 12 months.

Depending on your climate and the location of your deck, blackbutt may require more maintenance than other species – the timber specialists at Austim will be able to advise you on the best decking material for your project.

Inside the home, blackbutt will need to be swept and mopped regularly to protect the surface from scratching. Blackbutt will also need to be sanded and re-sealed every few years depending on the amount of traffic over the area.
