Michael Rowney - Managing director
Michael graduated from UWA with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1989. He commenced his working career with a Mining and Civil Engineering company as a trainee accountant. Nine years later and after a three year stint in Kalgoorlie as Financial Controller for the Underground Mining Division Michael left and returned to Perth. He studied and obtained a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning, however after a short twelve months with one of Perth most respected Financial Planning Practices Michael made a decision to change career paths and entered his family business Austim in 2001. Michael brought with him strong financial and administrative skills to his family’s business and continues to gain knowledge of the timber industry.

Julian Whitaker - General Manager
After qualifying as a Cabinetmaker and spending a number of years in Furniture sales, Julian Whitaker joined Austim in 1991 and took on the role of Sales Administrator. After two years in that position he became a sales representative servicing the cabinet and joinery markets as well as metropolitan and regional reseller customers. In 1996 he became the Furniture Timbers Manager, before being promoted to Sales and Marketing Manager in 1999. In 2005 Julian was promoted to General Manager and is now involved in long term business planning as well as overseeing all of the company’s trading activities.

John Ford - Sales Manager WA
John joined Austim in March of 2001and has now worked in the  timber industry for just under 20yrs. Since joining Austim, John has been responsible for development and sales of Exotic Timber. He is also heavily involved in inventory management, research & development and marketing of new products under this category. John’s commitment to provide excellence and satisfaction to the customer along with extensive industry knowledge and experience has made him an important member of the Austim sales team. In March 2007 John was promoted to position of Sales Manager WA, responsible for all product sales and development of the Sales Team.

Peter Parker - Hardware & Building Products Manager
Peter joined Austim in 1991, in a junior logistical role and he quickly progressed into an internal sales position. In 1996 an opening became available for a sales representative, to service the retail hardware business that Austim was developing. Peter was appointed to and excelled in this role, quickly developing a great rapport with the buyers. As this sector of the company’s business grew an additional representative was employed to service the increased demand and in 2000 Peter was promoted to his current position as Retail Distribution Manager.

Neil Timms – Purchasing Manager
Neil joined Austim in August 2008 in the role of Purchasing Manager responsible for the procurement of our wide range of locally produced and imported timber products. Neil started in the timber industry in 1977 working for 24 years with a building supply business focussing mainly on local hardwoods and softwoods, becoming the Manager in 1997. In 2000 he moved to Bunnings and into the role of Inventory Coordinator at their WA Trade Distribution Centre. Both roles required good knowledge of the local and national supply of the many timber species needed to supply the local building market. Constant involvement with the supply chain helped forge strong relationships with many suppliers to support the excellent level of customer service needed in an ever changing market.
